Image of Isaac Brandt. Brandt's early days were spent as a shoemaker. Upon coming to Iowa with his wife Harriet and three of his children, he entered into the dry goods business and eventually went in to real estate. Over his life he served as Assistant Treasurer of State, a state representative, as a member of the Des Moines city council, and was Postmaster of Des Moines, along with other political appointments.
